How Blogging Can Grow Your Business Online

Published October 19th, 2011 by Farin Innovations

The term “blogging” often conjures up images of nerds or giggling little girls. It surely doesn’t seem like something YOU want to do. The truth, though, is that blogging is a great way to bring more popularity to your website and brand.

Just because your blog is for your business does not mean you should use it specifically for marketing. Blog readers are smart. They can spot a marketing ploy instantly. Instead, focus on helping your customer. Blog about information that is educational, informative and entertaining. It should encourage the reader to interact with you and make your company feel “real” and down to earth. It is ok to mention a product when relevant, but do not focus on product promotion.

Once the reader is on your site, it’s your site’s job to convert them into customers. They stopped by to read the article on your blog, but now that they’re there, you don’t want them to just leave right after they’ve finished reading. You want them to notice your products or services and give them a click.  The more time they spend on your site, the better. You want the site layout to (in a natural way) encourage readers to click on other pages and links.

Back links are also important. A back link is a link that leads back to your site. Each blog you post works as a back link, and if your blogs are helpful, other people may promote them, which means more back links to your site. If you link to a few different pages in your blog posts, you can rack up 3-4 back links per blog. These will add up in no time. They really help your site’s overall SEO.

Blogs increase traffic. When people are coming to your site to read your blog, they’re driving up the monthly traffic, which is exactly what you want. The more people there are on your site, the more likely you are to get more sales.  If your site is designed in a lead-converting manner, you’ll definitely notice the benefits of the blog traffic. Remember, the blog isn’t directly about marketing, but the website is, so the more people you get on the site, the better your business will do.

Blogs help you gain attention and awareness. It is a perfect way to draw attention to parts of your business that may not be as popular as the rest. Blogging lets you focus in on small niches that you’d have no way of addressing without it. You should never have to wonder what to blog about, because there are so many niche markets you can tap into.

People don’t just want to buy any product. They want to buy the best product from the most knowledgeable seller. Blogs show customers that you know what you’re talking about.  They offer valuable information that you could never fit in a teeny tiny item description. When customers want to do additional research, they can read your blog. This allows them to get the information they want without leaving your site. It also shows them that you have a real passion for the topic. It makes the reader more comfortable with your business. For example, we hope this article makes you more comfortable with and aware of our passion for website design and maintenance. (If it doesn’t, you haven’t read enough. Blogging can be a great asset if you do it correctly. If you are a stranger to blogging, get some advice before you jump in. You need to make sure your blogs target the right people.  Before you begin blogging, you need to make sure your website is in optimal condition to host the blog. It doesn’t matter how good the article is if you have an unattractive site that no one wants to search. They’ll read the article and then exit out, never once taking a look at your products or services. This may require a quick update or, perhaps, a whole new website. Farin Innovations, a miami website design and development company, can help you decide what exactly needs to be done to get your site ready for blogging.
